Water is the constant nuisance of a construction site in Sharjah. It collects in the excavation, it comes off the concrete work, it fills the site toilets and the accommodation block, and every one of those sources can stop work if it is not dealt with. A drainage tanker is how it gets dealt with. Here is how the sites that never lose a day to water use one.
Where the water on a site comes from
- Excavations and foundation pits: groundwater seeping in, or rain collecting, at the lowest point on the site
- Concrete and wash-down work: water from washing out mixers, pumps and tools, and from curing
- Temporary toilets and site offices: sewage in holding tanks that fill with the headcount
- Labour accommodation on or beside the site: a sewage tank that fills every week
- Dewatering sumps and trenches: water pumped from the works that has to go somewhere
Each of these is a different job for the tanker — some are one-off, some are scheduled — but they all end the same way: pumped into a tanker and taken to the treatment plant. Our construction site drainage service covers all of them.
Why it stops work
A flooded excavation cannot be worked in, and every hour it stands full is an hour on the programme. Standing water on a site is a safety issue that the consultant will notice. A site toilet tank that overflows is a welfare and inspection issue that the main contractor will notice. And an accommodation block that overflows is all three at once. None of these are dramatic on their own; together they are how a site quietly loses days.
Planning the tanker into the programme
The sites that handle this well settle three questions before mobilisation:
- How much water the excavation is likely to take on, and whether it is continuous seepage or only after rain — this decides whether the tanker is scheduled or on call.
- How many people will use the site toilets and any accommodation, which sets a collection frequency for those tanks from day one.
- Where a tanker can park at each stage of the build. Access that is easy at excavation stage disappears once the structure goes up, and the plan should say where the hoses will run.
From those, a tanker company can propose a frequency and adjust it as the site changes. Give the site manager's number to the tanker company and let them coordinate directly.
When the excavation floods anyway
Rain, a burst line or a pump failure will occasionally fill an excavation faster than any plan. The paperwork the consultant will ask for
Where does the site's sewage and wastewater go? The answer should be a permitted tanker to the Sharjah Municipality treatment plant, and the proof is the discharge receipt for each load. We provide those on request, so the question has an answer when it is asked.
